It’s no secret that we deal with an invasion of feral hogs in the south! What some people up north consider a bucket list hunt, people down south consider these animals a nuisance.
Feral hogs do a considerable amount of damage to ranches and farmers’ land, such as ruining their crops, transmitting disease, hurting other animal species populations, and also causing damage to natural resources.
Studies estimate that feral hogs have caused $1.5 BILLION in damages annually. The University of Georgia found that that cost could be closer to $2-$2.5 BILLION a year.
A group of feral swine can double in population in just four months and start breeding at 6 months old, sometimes even before, depending on their diet.
Outdoorsmen all over the south try to control this population by culling out as many as they can. A group of guys from Texas went out and did some population control themselves, getting 237 in ONE NIGHT!! Although, I bet it didn’t even make a dent in the population.
