California inmate Alissa Kamholz claims she was re-traumatized from her childhood sexual abuse after she was forced to share a cell with a biological male, according to the latest video from the Independent Women’s Forum’s (IWF) “Cruel & Unusual Punishment” series.
The video series highlights the plight of biological women who “have been forced to share their female-only spaces with men who identify as women.” Kamholz’s story is the latest installment.
Kamholz is serving a 39-year sentence in a California women’s prison and detailed in the latest video how she was violated by her stepdad and his motorcycle gang friends.
“For ten years, I was violated continually by him and his biker buddies,” Kamholz told IWF. She described her abuser as a long-haired white man.
In 2004, the female inmate was convicted of carjacking. Coupled with her prior convictions for residential burglary and robbery in 1999, she obtained a double prison sentence, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Kamholz described prison as her “safe place.”
In 2021, California’s Transgender Respect, Agency, and Dignity Act went into effect. The law allows male felons who identify as women to relocate to women’s facilities. After the law went into effect, at least 321 requests for transfers based on gender identity were filed.
Kamholz claims that administrators told female inmates that none of the men who moved into the female prisons would be a security-threat group, have ties to prison gangs, or previously committed a crime against women. She claims that male transfers would receive hormone therapy and transition surgery before arrival.
In November 2023, Kamholz learned that a long-haired, white male — someone who looked similar to her childhood abuser — would become her new cellmate. Kamholz described living in a constant state of PTSD.
Kamholz claims that a majority of the biological men brought into the women’s prison facilities have ties to gangs or committed crimes against women and children. One male inmate reportedly told Kamholz, in more vulgar terms, that he was excited to have female-male intercourse while in the women’s prison facility.
