The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is reporting that it has found 200 sex trafficking victims and over 125 suspects during their “Operation Cross Country” campaign that took place last month.
“Operation Cross Country” was a two-week campaign conducted in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and various state and local law enforcement agencies. This nationwide effort was implemented to identify and locate victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
The results of this operation were extremely successful: the FBI reported the discovery of 200 victims and the arrest of over 125 suspects last month. Among the individuals identified were 59 minors who had been victims of sex trafficking and 59 actively missing children.
FBI Director Christopher Wray emphasized the agency’s commitment to hunting down criminals that engage in human trafficking. In an official statement, Wray said, “Human traffickers prey on the most vulnerable members of our society, and their crimes scar victims — many of them children — for life. The FBI’s commitment to combating this threat will never waver, and we will continue to send our message that these atrocities will not be tolerated.”
Attorney General Merrick B. Garland commended the operation’s efforts and underscored its critical importance in the ongoing fight against human trafficking.
“Sex traffickers exploit and endanger some of the most vulnerable members of our society and cause their victims unimaginable harm,” Garland said. “This operation, which located 59 actively missing children, builds on the tremendous work the FBI has undertaken over many years to rescue minor victims and arrest those responsible for these unspeakable crimes.”
The issue of human trafficking is rightfully at the forefront of American politics due to the recent release of the film “Sound of Freedom,” an intense action film that sheds light on the horrors of human trafficking.
It is crucial to remember that behind these statistics lie real individuals. With most of these victims being women, it is important to recognize that these are mothers, daughters, and sisters, whose lives have been permanently altered due to the darkest evils imaginable. Human trafficking should be an issue where partisan politics takes a seat and all Americans can come together and fight against this horrific violation of human rights.
