The University of Pennsylvania community received a vulgar email on Friday as a result of a “hack,” which criticized the school as “elitist” and accused it of “unmeritocratic practices.”
The email, which used the official letterhead of Penn’s Graduate School of Education, had the subject line “We got hacked.” It began by referring to Penn as a “dogs*** elitist institution” full of “woke retards.”
“We have terrible security practices and are completely unmeritocratic,” the email read. “We hire and admit morons because we love legacies, donors, and unqualified affirmative action admits.”
It further accused the university of breaking the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which protects student records, and violating the Supreme Court ruling that ended affirmative action.
“We love breaking federal laws like FERPA (all your data will be leaked) and Supreme Court rulings like SFFA. Please stop giving us money,” the email concluded.
Some students reported receiving the email multiple times. A university spokesperson told local media that Penn was not actually hacked but is investigating the source of the message.
In a statement to Fox News, a university representative said the emails were “obviously” fake and did not reflect the school’s values.
“A fraudulent email has been circulated that appears to come from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. This is obviously a fake, and nothing in the highly offensive, hurtful message reflects the mission or actions of Penn or of Penn GSE. The University’s Office of Information Security is aware of the situation, and our Incident Response team is actively addressing it,” the spokesperson said.
The incident follows a similar one last year in which Penn students received fake messages allegedly from the university’s board of trustees that described the school as “beholden to the richest, scummiest people out there.”
