Enes Kanter Freedom is a former 3rd overall pick in the NBA draft and most recently, a member of the Boston Celtics. Born in Switzerland, Kanter was raised in Turkey and represented the Turkish national basketball league throughout international games.
However, Freedom became a United States citizen in Novemeber 2021—and prided himself so much on his newfound American citizenship that he changed his last name to FREEDOM!
That’s the kind of gratitude of America’s foundational principles/freedoms and awareness of the privilege it is to be an American that we have not seen from any other NBA player.
