Elon Musk Visits Southern Border at Eagle Pass Amid Growing Illegal Immigrant Crisis
On Thursday, Elon Musk took a trip to the U.S.-Mexico border in Eagle Pass, Texas as footage of the border crisis continues to gain traction online. Since the beginning of September, tens of thousands of illegals have crossed the southern border every day, with the tech billionaire deciding to go down to the border, alongside a Texas congressman, to bring attention to how bad this issue has gotten.
Musk was accompanied by Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales, who brought forth local sheriffs and officials, such as Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown, who shared that local officials have been fighting this “open border” crisis for the past two years.
“We’re seeing historic numbers,” Gonzales began, “11,000 people coming over daily for the past week,” he shared, highlighting the increasing number of illegals crossing the Texas border.
Musk then went on to ask if this is an “accelerating crisis” — Gonzales answered by informing him that last week, more than 11,000 people crossed in a single day, and that number has only continued to grow.
The Tesla and SpaceX founder considers himself to be very “pro-immigration” but said that he wants to see legal immigration “smooth[ed] out” and he insists that the U.S. must “stop a flow of people that is of such magnitude that we’re leading to a collapse of social services.”
The livestream, which ended up garnering so many views that it crashed X’s live streaming capabilities, has since garnered over 80 million impressions, with American citizens taking to the comments to thank Musk for highlighting an issue they feel has been completely ignored by the media.
“Elon Musk’s trip to Eagle Pass crashes X’s live stream — A lot of people clearly want an unfiltered view of the border,” News Nation reporter, Ali Bradley tweeted.
Since the beginning of September CBP sources have shared that they have repeatedly seen, “10,000 + encounters per day recently,” according to Fox News reporter Bill Melugin. During the fiscal year of 2022, a historic record of over 2.7 million crossings was recorded, and based on 2023’s numbers, many are expecting a new record to be set.
These increasing numbers can be tied to the constant battle Border Patrol agents have had with their higher-ups, who continue to cut razor wire at border hot spots. During an interview with News Nation, one agent shared that it felt “demoralizing” to cut the wire. However, “the reality of the law is that once they’re in the United States, they have to be taken into custody,” said Art Del Cueto, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council.
In an attempt to prevent illegal immigrants from crossing the Rio Grande into the U.S., Texas also set up a floating border of buoys, which a federal judge ruled that Texas had to remove. Luckily, a federal appeals court granted the state’s request to leave the floating barrier in place, reversing the judge’s order to remove the extra border protection.
It’s not only border cities like Eagle Pass that are feeling the pressure of the growing crisis. Mayor Eric Adams of Sanctuary City, New York, has shared that the city will be spending $12 billion on feeding and sheltering illegal immigrants. In Chicago, police precincts have become overrun with illegal immigrants who sleep inside and outside of the buildings.
This issue will only continue to weaken our country, as on-the-ground reporters have shared footage of trainloads of illegal immigrants making their way through Mexico to our open southern border.
