Elon Musk Threatens to Sue Anti-Defamation League for Defamation

Elon Musk is threatening to sue the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) after accusing the organization of “trying to kill” his social media platform.
In a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Musk stated that he may have “no choice” but to file a defamation lawsuit against the ADL after the organization accused him of peddling anti-semitism.
“To clear our platform’s name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League … oh the irony!“

Musk went on to claim that since he first purchased the platform, the ADL has been trying to “kill” the platform by accusing him of being anti-Semitic. Musk elaborated that the ADL has pressured advertisers on the site, causing a 60% reduction in U.S. advertising revenue.
The tech billionaire argues that the ADL could be responsible for destroying half the value of the company, an amount that equals $22 billion. He also said the ADL is responsible for most of the platform’s revenue loss.
“Based on what we’ve heard from advertisers, ADL seems to be responsible for most of our revenue loss,” Musk alleged. “Giving them maximum benefit of the doubt, I don’t see any scenario where they’re responsible for less than 10% of the value destruction, so ~$4 billion.”
Earlier this year, the ADL published an article on its website titled, “Twitter Not Enforcing Its Policies on Antisemitic Content.” The organization characterized Twitter as a site that, “continues to host antisemitic threats and tropes.” The ADL also claimed that Twitter was failing to take down anti-Semitic tweets that violated hateful conduct policies.
After Musk posted about a potential lawsuit against the organization, #BanTheADL began to trend on X. This prompted an ADL spokesperson to respond to the viral controversy.
“ADL is unsurprised yet undeterred that antisemites, white supremacists, conspiracy theorists, and other trolls have launched a coordinated attack on our organization. This type of thing is nothing new,” an ADL spokesperson said.
The ADL is an international Jewish non-governmental organization designed to combat anti-semitism and extremism towards the Jewish community. However, in recent years, the ADL has been characterized as a partisan organization that echoes the woke ideologies of the left.
For example, in 2020 the ADL defined the term ‘racism’ as “the marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially constructed racial hierarchy that privileges White people.” This definition echoes the leftist sentiment that racism must come from a place of power and concludes that only white people can be racist. The organization eventually changed this definition on its website.
The non-profit organization also includes TPUSA contributor and LibsofTiktok creator Chaya Raichik in its “glossary of extremism.” Raichik, a Jew herself, is condemned by the ADL for her alleged attempts to “generate outrage and stoke anti-LGBTQ+ hostility by reposting selected out-of-context social media content created by LGBTQ+ people and liberals.”
Raichik told TPUSA that many organizations claiming to be nonpartisan, such as the ADL, act in politically partisan ways, working directly for the most progressive activists in the movement. “In reality,” Raichik said, the purported nonpartisan organizations “have become the propaganda arm for the left.”
“It’s time they are held accountable,” Raichik added.
