Elon Musk announced he would be canceling his Netflix subscription, criticizing the streaming service for including children’s programming that features pro-transgender content.
In an X post Wednesday, Musk wrote, “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids,” alongside a meme depicting a Trojan horse labeled “transgender woke agenda” being delivered to “your kids.” He also replied “same” to an X user who said, “Just cancelled my Netflix subscription. If you employ someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk and makes content that pushes pro-trans content on my kids…you will NEVER get a dime of my money. It’s as simple as that.”
Clips circulating on X have recently highlighted children’s shows on Netflix with transgender themes. The animated series Ridley Jones features a cow named Fred who identifies as nonbinary and discusses using “a different name and pronouns” for the first time.
Another series, the 2022 Netflix original Dead End: Paranormal Park, includes a storyline with a transgender main character. The show’s creator, who identifies as transgender, has also drawn backlash for negative comments made on Bluesky following the murder of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk. Musk reposted a clip from the show with the caption, “This is not ok.”
Musk also reposted claims that Netflix openly brags about discriminating against white people. The streaming service’s inclusion and diversity report highlighted that the percentage of racially underrepresented directors and lead characters has been growing over the past several years.
According to a report by Forbes, Netflix shares dropped 2.2 percent as of Wednesday afternoon.
