Elon Musk has made it extremely clear where Twitter’s policy lies in regard to pedophilia after permanently banning an account promoting a “Youth Attracted Persons” flag. An incredible shift from the platform that was previously sued for refusing to take down child pornography.
An account with the handle @ZeebDemon was discovered to have shared a flag designed to celebrate Alice Day, a day described as a “pedophile pride day” which falls on April 25th each year.
“Happy Alice Day, to those who celebrate!” the account tweeted. “I figured, why not use today to unveil the YAP (Youth Attracted Person) pride flag I designed almost a year ago,” the now-suspended account continued.
The tweet initially racked up almost a million impressions before being permanently suspended by Twitter with Elon issuing his own statement on the matter.
“Not tolerated on this platform,” Musk tweeted in response to Dr. Anastasia Maria Loupis, a user who praised the suspension of the pedophile’s account. Many users then responded to her post thanking Elon for his strong stance on the matter.
“I’ve never before gone from complete distrust to admiration. He was never even on my radar prior. such good actions & words,” one Twitter user responded.
“This would never happen under Jack. Elon is doing some good things,” another added.
When Musk first took over the social media platform, he made it very clear that working to remove child sexual exploitative material was a top priority for him. Twitter’s previous leadership claimed that child abuse imagery would not remove because the content did not “violate their policies.”
According to the New York Post, a 13-year-old victim of sexual abuse and coercion was exploited in videos that were then shared on Twitter. Still a minor, the boy pleaded with Twitter to remove the content from the internet, to which they refused. The minor even went so far as to send his identification to prove that he was indeed the child in the videos.
After being alerted to the video three times, Twitter responded by stating that the content did not “violate their policies.” After involving the Department of Homeland Security in the case, Twitter finally removed the exploitative content.
The family of the victim ended up filing a lawsuit as a direct result of Twitter’s initial refusal to remove child pornography.
In our modern-day society in which pedophiles have tried to rebrand themselves as “MAPs” or “minor-attracted persons” and the acceptance of pedophilia becomes more mainstream, many are praising Musk’s statement as a strong move in the fight to protect children worldwide.
