In a recent video posted on social media, transgender activist and Tiktok star Dylan Mulvaney criticized journalists who refer to him as a man and stated that this behavior should be “illegal.”

“The articles written about me using he pronouns and calling me a man over and over again. I feel like that should be illegal. I don’t know, that’s just bad journalism.”

Over the past few months, Mulvaney’s voice has been amplified as he has become one of the most famous transgender individuals in the country. Mulvaney has received numerous advertising partnerships from billion dollar companies such as Bud Light, Olay, Nike and more.

At the end of last year, President Joe Biden sat down for an interview with Mulvaney. There, the President celebrated Mulvaney’s “transition” and stated that it is morally wrong for states to impose any restrictions on “gender-affirming care” for trans-people, including minors.

Mulvaney’s success is largely due to the journalists who defend and amplify his voice. A large aspect of this is the mainstream media’s decision to use “she/her” pronouns when referring to Mulvaney. Whenever Mulvaney is referred to as a “she” by the media, the lie that men can become women is perpetuated. Even Fox News, while condemning the things Mulvaney stands for, will refer to him as a woman and use his preferred pronouns, rather than the biologically consistent pronouns, he/him.

This sort of journalism is deeply dishonest and is purposefully implemented to normalize transgender ideology. Mulvaney says that it is “bad journalism” to call him a man. However, to purposefully deceive and lie is by definition, bad journalism. Journalists have an obligation to tell the truth, even if the truth is uncomfortable.

The call for misgendering someone to be “illegal” is a growing movement among western countries. Canada has notoriously passed a law that fines any individual who intentionally misgenders a transgender individual.

The left talks a lot about how certain policies are a “threat to our democracy,” but laws like this are an actual threat to the freedoms and liberties that make America what it is. There is an epidemic among the radical left of the belief that speech that offends someone should be illegal. This type of mindset falls in line more with fascist and authoritarian ideologies.

“Turning Point USA’s commitment to the fight for freedom on campus is more important now than ever.”

- Senator Marco Rubio, Florida
