I just got back from an unforgettable Spring Break vacation in the Bahamas! It was some much-needed time to relax, especially during a time when so many are shaming others from traveling. It was the perfect place to get away from the real world!
I know a lot of people have been curious about traveling during the COVID pandemic. If you want to know more about the precautions we took in order to travel to the Bahamas, keep reading. I explain it at the end of this article.
First, I just want to say it was a breath of fresh air to go on a trip with my family and spend some time away with them. The last year has thrown a lot of people off. It’s been anything but normal. I encourage you all to get out and do something with your friends or family (of course only if you are comfortable and safe), even if it is a stay-cation or girl’s night! My word of advice to you before we get into my recap of this trip – We only have this one life. There is no going back. I understand how this last year has been, but if you are constantly living in fear, are you really living? Remember who is in charge and trust in God.
During my trip, we booked an excursion to some of the different islands and keys in the Bahamas, where we fed iguanas and swam with nurse sharks and the infamous pigs.
I had no idea what to expect, but it was INCREDIBLE! I’ll share a couple pics to make you a little more jealous than you already are and give you a chance to escape from reality for a minute!

The iguanas came out of the trees like they knew we were coming. As soon as we pulled up to the island, they came running out of the trees wanting to eat the berries we had for them!

The sharks were chill and just swam around us, letting us hold them. Yes, they were wild in their natural habitat, but something tells me they are used to human interaction. This wasn’t their first rodeo.

The pigs were HUGE and as much as we tried to interact with them, all they really cared about was the bread we were feeding them. One thing is for sure, they definitely weren’t missing any meals. They were adamant and since they were so cute, we gave them what they wanted! One even bit my leg and my mom’s butt to get more food but overall, it was a great time.

Precautions we had to take in order to travel to the Bahamas
Before we left the US:
- We had to have a NEGATIVE “Rapid PCR Covid Test.” It was a very specific test that only certain places will do.
- The Bahamas required we applied for a health visa. Our airline provided us with this info and the website to go to in order to receive it.
After arrival:
- We had to show our health visas in order to enter the country, which showed negative results.
- The masks requirements were a hit or miss. Some places you needed them, some places you didn’t.You didn’t have to have one at the pool, but if you wanted to go to the poolside restaurant, you had to have one. So we just kept one with us at all times just in case.
- The day before we left we had to get another “Rapid PCR Covid Test.”
All-in-all, the travel requirements were pretty easy and weren’t too much trouble. The airlines should provide you with the information you need in order to travel to your destination, but if they don’t, a quick google search will give you the information you need!
Who’s ready to go on vacation?!
