One of the things that have PISSED ME OFF these past few months/years is that people use tragedy or crises to post something that “looks good” on their social media accounts.
Let me be abundantly clear: 9/11 is NOT about your social media post.
9/11 is a day that should be remembered and memorialized throughout history, BUT it is not just a time to “prove yourself” on social media.
Now, don’t hear this incorrectly. If you are in it for the right reasons, I encourage you to remember the innocent Americans that were lost that day. But I think as time has passed people have lost the raw horror of that September 11th, 2001 and it’s depersonalized what 9/11 truly means.
So before you post or go about your day on 9/11, I want to reintroduce you to some of the horrors that happened.
I’m not doing this to make anyone feel bad, feel scared or feel like they can’t remember those who were lost. I’m doing this because 20 years ago, on 9/11, normal people like you and I had to deal with a reality that was so horrific that our country would never be the same.
Remember before you post that parents dropped their kids off at school that day and said “I love you” for the last time.
Remember before you post that when the first plane hit the tower on 9/11 the evil was so shocking that at first, people didn’t think to evacuate.
Remember before you post that when the towers came down the ash and smoke was so prevalent that people thought they were no longer alive and were witnessing a whiteout.
Remember before you post that heroes ran straight into those buildings and never came out because they wanted to save others.
Remember before you post that there was a group of people that overthrew a plane to save the lives of others.
Remember before you post, that people decided to jump from those buildings because they chose death over burning.
Remember before you post that after that day, the skyline of New York City had two gaping holes in it and America was changed forever.
Remember before you post that this was an intentional attack. Someone DESIRED to do this, they wanted this to happen.
Remember before you post that America was resilient. And we fought back.
Remember before you post that evil doesn’t prevail. Hope prevails.
