DHS Report Shows 627 Percent Increase in ICE Arrests

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a report Wednesday revealing that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests have surged by 627 percent since President Donald Trump took office.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that in a single month under the Trump administration, over 20,000 illegal aliens were arrested. This marks a significant increase compared to just 33,000 at-large arrests made throughout the entirety of the previous year under President Joe Biden.
“President Trump and this Administration are saving lives every day because of the actions we are taking to secure the border and deport illegal alien criminals. Hundreds of thousands of criminals were let into this country illegally. We are sending them home, and they will never be allowed to return,” Noem said in a statement.
At the current pace, ICE is expected to make approximately 160,000 arrests under the Trump administration by the end of the 2025 fiscal year on October 1.
DHS has removed several restrictions to allow agents to increase efforts in apprehending illegal immigrants. One major policy change includes the elimination of “sensitive locations” restrictions, which previously limited ICE operations in certain areas. Additionally, the Trump administration has granted broader immigration enforcement powers to agents in other federal agencies, such as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), US Marshals Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), according to the Daily Caller.
The administration has also taken steps to crack down on sanctuary cities. The Department of Justice has filed lawsuits against New York City and Chicago over laws that prevent local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. Attorney General Pam Bondi has further announced that federal funding will be withheld from sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with immigration enforcement efforts.
