This is a clear example of bad parenting at the zoo.

While spending a day at the San Diego Zoo, a dad, Jose Manual Navarrete, took his 2-year-old baby into the Elephant cages just to get a photo. He went through the fence (which you’re not supposed to cross for obvious reasons), walked all the way into the elephant habitat (where only specific zoo employees are allowed) and attempted to take a photo. The elephant wasn’t having it, of course. The man had his back turned to the largest land mammal IN THE WORLD and in a terrifying, not-so-shocking turn of events, the elephant started charging towards them.

Watch the events play out in this INSANE video! He DROPS the baby dangerously close to the elephant’s feet, then grabs the child and high-tails it out of the habitat just in time.

While they were lucky to escape death or serious injury, this idiotic decision did not end well for Jose. He paid the price by getting arrested by the San Diego Police Department and booked on child endangerment charges. Well deserved for such a reckless act.

So this makes me wonder…. Did he get the photo? Was the photo worth the jail time, the hefty fines, and the possibility of losing his child?

Although most normal, sane human beings know not to do this, let’s just hope, at the very least, that someone learned a lesson from this dad’s choices.
