Constitutional Carry was recently passed by lawmakers in Tennessee and Iowa, which allows permitless carry of firearms for their citizens.
The Tennessee Senate passed the bill that would allow their citizens to either open or conceal carry as long as they legally own the firearms and are not prohibited from purchasing one in their home state.
The bill, supported by Gov. Bill Lee, has cleared the Tennessee House of Representatives but has yet to pass the full chamber.
In the senate version of this bill, it was modified to make it a misdemeanor for anyone who has been convicted of stalking or declared mentally unfit to carry a handgun.
In Iowa, the bill would allow the permit-less purchase and carry of firearms. It passed in the Iowa House of Representatives in a 60-37 vote.
Both of these bills are backed by the NRA, National Rifle Association, who reported to Fox News, “NRA continues to work to make constitutional carry a reality state-by-state. Earlier this year, we helped pass it in Utah and Montana, and now we’re working to make it into law in Tennessee and Iowa. This will mark 20 states where the fundamental right of self-defense is recognized and residents aren’t first required to ask government permission or pay a self-defense tax before they can protect themselves and their families. This is meaningful legislation that has real impact on individuals and their safety.”
On the other side, critics of this bill argue that this would make it easier for criminals to obtain firearms and make it more dangerous for citizens and law enforcement.
But my question for you is this- Wouldn’t criminals do this whether it was legal or not?
