Bill Burr has a new Netflix special and it’s pretty great. “Live at Red Rocks” is an hour and 20 minutes of interesting rhetorical dialogue in which Burr dunks on woke culture, radical feminists, racism and all the hot topics out right now.
I think there’s a point to be made about the direction of standup comics at the moment. For the past 30 or so years, comedians were mostly seen as big lefties with at least a little bit of sense. But nowadays, many of them are being accused of being “ring-wing extremists” such as in the case of podcast host Joe Rogan.
I’m sure we can all agree that a vast majority of standup comedians are being mislabeled, however it is noteworthy to mention the recent right leaning tendencies of many mainstream comedic personalities. Personally, I would attribute this new outlook to the comedians themselves being realists. Many of them look at the world in a relatively rational way, and when culture begins to polarize to one side of the isle, comedians have a way of bringing things back to reality.
There’s a famous saying that’s often been used during crazy times: “reality bats last.” Despite how great lefty ideas sound sometimes, those ideas always have to go up against reality. So in this current climate of ideological madness, comedians are the ones graciously returning our focus to real life, and Bill Burr’s special seemed to do just that.
All this to say: 10/10 would recommend.
