Coca-Cola: Get Off Your Soda Soapbox
Coca-Cola recently held a diversity training to encourage employees to “be less white.” One slide in the presentation stated that “to be less white is to be less oppressive, less arrogant, less certain, less defensive, less ignorant, more humble, to listen, believe, and break with white solidarity.”
A sense of morality, integrity, and values to live by should not be associated with any race in particular. In fact, to claim otherwise is, by definition, racist. Saying “please” and “thank you” is never oppressive. Holding the door for a stranger is never an act of arrogance. Sitting up straight, having a firm handshake and good eye contact are unbiased acts.
Coca-Cola should be ashamed. Instead of playing politics and pandering to people based on their skin color, they should be encouraging kindness and hard work. Coca-Cola should get off their soda soapbox and go back to what they do best: rotting people’s teeth with their sugar-water cocktail.
