Retired Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) captain Jaeson Jones, reporting on behalf of Frontlines TPUSA, joined Tom Homan, former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director, Texas State Troopers, and other officials, to shed light on the extensive network of smuggling caves used by cartels beneath the U.S.-Mexico border.
Jimmy Morris, Texas DPS Sergeant, said that at least 100 people could be hidden in the caves at one time, and stated that DPS has located not only narcotics but also the remains of five deceased individuals in the caves. “We’ve flown over this for many, many years and we never knew about it until we started picking up tracks under here,” Morris said. He told Jones that there are “8 big caves like this,” in the area.
Stacy Holland, Chief Pilot at Texas DPS, told Jones, “It seems like the situation [at the border] is deteriorating.”
Texas has seen exponentially high numbers of illegal migrant caravans over the past year, setting a new record for daily migrant encounters at a staggering 12,000 individuals, with few resources to meet the needs of the arrivals, thwart the efforts of cartels, and care for American border communities. Federal agents from several agencies have been pulled from their stations and assigned new roles assisting Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents at immigrant processing facilities.
“It’s getting worse by the day,” he added. “When you’ve got 12,000 people a day to process, I mean, that takes a lot of manpower to do.”
The state of Texas and the federal government have been in an ongoing legal battle over jurisdiction over immigration enforcement along the U.S.-Mexico border, leading to the Texas National Guard taking drastic actions and blocking CBP agents from accessing a public park in Eagle Pass, Texas, except in the event of an emergency.
Former ICE Director Homan sided with Texas, and said that federal officials are allowing the southern border to remain unsecured, purposefully exasperating the crisis, and “As a result, a record number of Americans are dying from fentanyl.”
