Catch and Release: Career Criminal Arrested 41 Times Torments NYC Streets
Suspect Alexander Wright is currently behind bars, facing a mere $5,000 bail for violently assaulting a Metropolitan Transportation Authority employee, Anthony Nelson. Wright was harassing women at a subway station in the city on the morning of August 11th, when Nelson tried to intervene, Wright viciously assaulted him. Nelson suffered severe injuries, both his shoulder and nose were broken.
This was not Wright’s first random act of violence. Last year in Chinatown, he punched an Asian woman directly in the face, rendering her unconscious — completely unprovoked. She sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Wright has an extensive track record of sporadic crimes, arbitrarily targeting individuals within his community.
“If you look at his history, you’ll throw up,’’ Robert Kelley, vice president of Transport Workers Union Local 100, told The Post on Tuesday. “The system has let society down [more than] 40 times,” Kelley said. “At the end of the day, these are all similar cases of assault.”

Wright has been arrested a total of 41 times, has been continuously released back into the community he frequently torments. The New York Post reported that Wright was “previously been reported to authorities three times as an ’emotionally disturbed person.'”
Higher crime rates and repeat offenders are by-products of criminal justice reform theories. Being soft on crime in the name of “equity” does nothing but incentivizes criminals by issuing overly-lenient punishments.
In fact, crime has gotten so bad in liberal areas, that even Ana Kasparian, progressive liberal host of The Young Turks show, criticized the catch and release policies that have been implemented.
“This is a man who was arrested 41 times. After this incident he was released & went on to send a subway worker to the hospital with a broken collarbone. But according to this crime reporter, the man committing assaults/breaking bones is the real victim.” Kasparian shared to Twitter.
Unfortunately, her radical left-wing followers condemned Kasparian for her take on the situation. “What are you trying to achieve with this narrative? The public hears enough dishonest fearmongering about crime. Left/alt media should offer something different, such as exploring root causes of crime,” one comment read.
Many other Twitter users chimed in to claim that longer jail sentencing isn’t the solution, that imprisonment for violent crimes is not the answer — which is just as nonsensical as it sounds. When criminals are rewarded for their bad behavior and are allowed to roam the streets, continuing their violent crime spree, society can expect to see higher crime rates. Taking people who pose a threat to innocent citizens off the streets is in fact the only solution, it has nothing to do with equity, systemic oppression, or any other left-wing narrative.
We have to punish crimes if we want to disincentivize criminals.
