Cartels Use Social Media to Recruit Smugglers as Migrant Deaths Hit Record High

Our southern border is nonexistent, our country has been invaded.
Customs and Border Patrol estimate that as many as 5 million people have made it into the United States illegally during President Biden’s Administration alone, a record-setting number. But that is not the only record set over the past two years.
Reuters reported in July that over 1,000 migrants have died making the journey across the southern border during the President’s term, a number that is likely a gross understatement. Extreme temperatures, terrain, and the brutality of the cartels have all contributed significantly to the record high number.
“More than 800 migrants have died border-wide in the fiscal year that ends this week, according to internal government figures shared by a senior Border Patrol official.”

According to Customs and Border Patrol statistics, 247 migrants crossing the southern border died in 2020, and 300 in 2019. The massive spike this year is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis.
Many have drowned attempting to cross the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Texas, which has become a hotbed for illegal immigration. Border Patrol agents pleaded with migrants to avoid the crossing after 9 people passed away in one day during while attempting to navigate the river’s strong current.
“It seems like it’s a slow moving river, but it’s fairly swift. It is very deceptive, very dangerous.”
“It’s basically a drowning a day that you’re seeing.”

Cartels that smuggle groups by the hundreds into the United States typically do so at night, as summer temperatures frequently soared into the 100’s. Though this avoids the extreme heat, it adds an additional level of difficulty to the trek.
The cartel members have their hands full, with groups as large as 800 crossing at once, and have taken to social media to recruit smugglers.
“Transnational criminal organizations coordinate operations at both sides of the border, with operatives picking up drugs, contraband and migrants as they come across the border illegally.”

Photos posted to Twitter, and the video below are just some examples of cartels using social media platforms to identify those willing to participate in their operations.
Human smuggling isn’t the only problem — cartels are bringing deadly drugs, predominantly fentanyl, into the United States. It has caused a crisis, not just in border towns, but nationwide. In Tennessee, sheriffs had to advise citizens to avoid picking up money dropped on the street because some bills were found to have been carrying enough methamphetamine and fentanyl to cause severe harm.
“Fentanyl has been a rising problem in American society over the last decade. While it was once a less common drug, it has now risen to be the cause of most annual overdose deaths.”

Opening the southern border and creating a lawless, free-for-all zone threatens the safety of American families, of children, and of the lives lost coming here in the first place. This is a nonpartisan plea to protect human life, by closing the southern border.
