Campuses Nationwide Have “Gender Affirming Closets” Where Transgender Students Can Receive Free Clothes
Cal State Fullerton has installed a new “Gender Affirming Closet” on campus, which gives free clothing and accessories to students who identify as “”transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming” so that they may “feel empowered to express themselves authentically.”
The closet opened in September and allows students who fall into the above categories to take home two free outfits each month. Available accessories to take home include chest binders, which are intended to remove the appearance of breasts for biological women transitioning to become men.
According to Campus Reform, there are other campuses nationwide that have similar programs on campus, including the University of North Texas, UC Davis, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Fresno State University.
What do you think about these programs on campus? Is there a “gender affirming closet” where you go to school? Tell us about it in the comments!
