What would you do if you found out your teenager was given an assignment asking them to write about a “white savior complex?”
Tustin Unified School District of Tustin, California, is the most recent addition to the School Board Watchlist. Recently, the district was caught using Critical Race Theory in the classroom by a parent when they learned their child was given a “white savior assignment.” Following the discovery of this assignment, a group of parents filed for a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) using the keywords “Ethnic studies.” The district denied teaching CRT and claimed that the assignment was unapproved by the district and assigned by a substitute teacher. When the results of the FOIA request were made available to the district, the parents found out they had been lied to. The school superintendent approved the assignment in March of 2021, and another school board member said in an internal email that it was a “good assignment in the ethnic studies course.” She also admits that the Ethnic Studies course is related to CRT but tries to soften the language to avoid scrutiny from parents.
Critical Race Theory will destroy the next generation of children. “White savior” assignments have no place in our schools. Thankfully, in Tustin, CA, parents were aware of this assignment and stood up to the racism in their schools. TPUSA’s School Board watchlist helps involved parents identify and expose corrupt and racist school boards.
