California Passes Law that Seeks to ‘Offer Refuge’ to Transgender Youth

Thursday, California signed Senate Bill 107 into law, which aims to create a sanctuary for transgender youth and their families who may have moved from other states that are limiting access to “gender-affirming care” such as hormone treatments and surgeries for minors.
“The new law prohibits California courts and attorneys from enforcing subpoenas requested by other states about gender-affirming care for minors, and healthcare providers from releasing medical information.“

This is mainly meant to demonize other states such as Texas and Alabama, that have classified all forms of child gender transitioning as child abuse — for numerous reasons pertaining to the physical and mental health of the child. SB 107 could be seen as infringing on other state’s rights to enforce their laws, but it is too soon to tell if it will be challenged in court.
California Governor Gavin Newsom praised the legislation, stating that California stands for “equality and acceptance.” This bill alleges that prescribing puberty-blocking medications to children (drugs which were previously used to chemically castrate sex offenders) lopping off healthy body parts, and confusing impressionable kids is necessary medical care.
“Parents know what’s best for their kids, and they should be able to make decisions around the health of their children without fear. We must take a stand for parental choice.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom
Parents may know what is best for their children in most situations, but that does not apply when medical professionals are coercing parents into “trans-ing” their children. Parents are constantly told by doctors to sign their child up for a lifetime subscription to Big Pharma or suffer the consequences.
Hospitals have openly boasted about how lucrative transgender procedures can be for medical providers, but have shied away from all criticism regarding the longterm harm caused. Now, California has chosen to safeguard medical institutions, instead of children, and their right to not be medically butchered, at an age which they cannot consent to the procedures.
Federal law would appear to ban this sort of legislation, states do not have the right to protect an individual who may be facing criminal charges in another state.
“The Constitution requires that if a person is charged with a crime in one state and flees to another, the harboring state must return the individual to the charging state.”

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, even the bill’s author, state Senator Scott Wiener, acknowledged the possibility that portions of the law could be struck down. He then stated in an interview that California will not send criminal refugees back to their state to be prosecuted “Unless we are absolutely forced to send you back, we are not going to send you back.”
