CA School District Narrowly Votes to Ban Critical Race Theory in Classrooms

In a 3-2 decision, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District board has voted to ban the teaching of critical race theory in all classrooms.

The decision to ban CRT is an effort to prevent radical curriculum in k-12 schools. Board member Leandra Blades, a supporter of the ban, explained that the objective is to keep politics out of the classrooms.

“I don’t want my politics, I don’t want your politics, I don’t want anybody’s politics in [classrooms],” Blades said, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. “I do believe in teaching kids to think critically. But there are so many classes … there are so many things you could teach your kids at home. If you really are passionate about these subjects, then teach them.”

The school district states that they “support efforts in education to promote equity, respect, diversity; celebrate the contributions of all, and encourage culturally relevant and inclusive teaching practices,” but will “not allow the use of critical race theory as a framework to guide such efforts,” according to the official resolution, seen in the following screenshots.

Critical race theory teaches students to view individuals and institutions through the lens of race. The theory advocates for identifying people by their racial group, and it teaches that America is systemically racist against non-white citizens. CRT proponents also make the claim that inequality is the same as inequity,

Opponents of the ban call the board’s actions “censorship,” arguing that CRT is not officially taught in k-12 classrooms. But California has been ramping up its efforts to pass race-related curricula, such as a recent requirement for all high school graduates to take an ethnic studies class.

There has been a growing movement across the country to push back against CRT. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, for example, recently announced an executive ban on CRT in all schools across the state. But the Placentia-Yorba Linda school district’s fight against CRT is indicative of a bigger movement happening…

California is an observational study of the consequences of left-wing policies. The state has passed a vast majority of the radical left’s agenda. The result? A massive migration of Californians moving to conservative states like Arizona, Texas, and Florida. The school district’s decision to ban CRT is another example of the public’s growing resentment and opposition against these far-left policies.

Conservatives want students to learn about all aspects of America’s history, both good and bad. But CRT is a warped perception of the country’s history. It argues that because our institutions are systemically racist, they must be torn down and rebuilt.

Parents across the country have been speaking out more about what is being taught to their children in public schools, raising awareness against the leftist indoctrination taking place in schools.

TPUSA has been vigilant about reporting CRT, anti-cop rhetoric, gender confusion, and more on TPUSA’s School Board Watchlist.

The reasoning for the school district’s CRT Ban echoes Governor Ron DeSanits’ reason for passing the Florida Parental Rights in Education Bill (misleadingly labeled the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill). CRT was banned in Florida, much to the dismay of this LGBTQ Florida kindergarten teacher.

Public school curricula should be continuously inspected and immediately removed when pushing harmful leftist ideologies. This time, the CA school district in Placentia-Yorba Linda did the right thing.
