A biological boy who identifies as a transgender girl can be seen in video footage throwing young girls to the ground and injuring them in what was supposed to be a girl’s basketball tournament in Massachusetts.
The coach of the all-girl team opted to forfeit the game after three players were injured. Video footage confirms at least one of those players was injured at the hands of the biologically male athlete.
The Collegiate Charter School of Lowell ended the game early against KIPP Academy, according to a press statement from the school. The school said it prizes “inclusivity and safety,” seemingly attempting to take both sides of the issue.
“The bench was already depleted going into the game with the 12-player roster having four players unable to play,” the press statement reads. “When the coach saw three more girls go down in the first half leaving him with five players, he made the call to end the game early.”
The press statement went on to claim that the Charter School “supports this decision and reiterates its values of both inclusivity and safety for all students.”
“We take the standards set by the MIAA and our Board of Trustees seriously and strive to uphold them on and off the court,” the press release continued. “We also follow the guidance from the MIAA and state laws regarding equity and access for all student-athletes.”
The MIAA handbook states that the same athletic opportunities “must be afforded to students in accordance with their identified gender, not necessarily their birth-assigned gender.” The handbook maintains the rights of biological males to compete in female sports, despite protests from vocal parents across Massachusetts.
One of the nation’s most ardent supporters of female equality, Riley Gaines, tweeted against the treatment of the girls on the Collegiate Charter School of Lowell basketball team.
“A man hitting a woman used to be called domestic abuse. Now it’s called brave,” Gaines tweeted. “Who watches [and] actually thinks this is ‘compassionate, kind, and inclusive’?”
