First of all, as someone who has built my entire career off of social media: I know how dangerous and unhealthy it can be. I try my best not to waste any more of my life than I absolutely have to on social media, and I suggest that you all do the same. However, I have to say that my ‘spidey sense’ has started tingling a bit with all of the bipartisan handwringing that is going on about Facebook right now. Yes, former Facebook data scientist turned whistleblower Frances Haugen makes a lot of great points regarding the negative impact some social media networks have, particularly Instagram and particularly on young women and girls.

However, her “concern” and that of many Left-leaning politicians that are mirroring it seems to be that Facebook lets too much “misinformation” pass around its platform. Now we all know that to the Left, “misinformation” basically means “any information or points of view that leans conservative.”

As a content creator who has a sizable following of around 330,000 on Facebook, I do not believe for a single solitary second that Facebook is somehow adjusting its algorithms to further the spread of conservative content. In fact, I believe the exact opposite: that Facebook does the best it can (without attracting too much attention) to stop the spread of conservative-leaning content on the platform. 

A few months back, I did a Facebook video that was highly critical of pop star Demi Lovato’s new “non-binary” identity. What happened? The video was reported for “hate speech,” and I got a strike AND banned for a full week. This is what happens on Facebook when you stand up to leftism.

I don’t think the Left’s newfound “concern” for young people on Facebook or the internet, in general, has anything to do with caring for them and everything to do with the fact that Facebook is not caving to their censorship demands at the level that leftists in power want it to.

So I’ll say this: be VERY wary of this push to regulate Facebook even if it seems “bipartisan.” It isn’t. The left is only playing a few conservative stooges so that they can better enforce their ideas of censorship and authoritarianism on the largest social media platform in the world. One where, coincidentally, conservative content outperforms liberal content. Conservatives in office shouldn’t fall for this ruse, and neither should you.
