Are COVID-19 Lockdowns And Mask Mandates Making A Comeback?

Almost two years after the COVID-19 lockdowns that imploded the US economy and destroyed American livelihoods, mask mandates are back and the mainstream media has begun ramping up fear surrounding an “uptick” in the new COVID-19 variant B.2.86.
Last week NBC News was the first to report that “COVID is making a comeback” as Lester Holt took to broadcast television to report that, “cases are once again on the rise” ultimately asking when new booster shots will begin to “rollout.”
This broadcast comes as a White House official stated that, “The Biden administration plans to urge all Americans to get a booster shot for the coronavirus this autumn to counter a new wave of infections,” per Reuters.
These announcements were made just last week and within the time frame, we have now seen both college campuses and a Hollywood studio reimplement mask mandates.
Morris Brown College was the first to make headlines after announcing that they would be implementing a two-week, mandatory mask policy, “due to reports of positive cases among students in the Atlanta University Center,” per the memo sent to Morris Brown College students and faculty.
The memo goes on to state that mask-wearing, social distancing, quarantine, isolation, contact tracing, and temperature checks would all be re-implemented over the next two weeks. School events and large gatherings such as parties are also banned on campus for the next two weeks.
Following this announcement, the Lionsgate studio in Los Angeles also announced that they would be reinstating mask mandates as well amid, “rising COVID cases in Los Angeles,” per Deadline.
In an internal email, obtained by Deadline, the mandatory mask mandate is effective immediately due to, “several employees recently testing positive for Covid.” Other rules include employees quarantining if they display any symptoms or if they have traveled internationally in the last 10 days.
These announcements come as the media begins to ramp up reporting on a new, “highly mutated” and “concerning” variant called B.2.86. A quick Google search will bring up an entire page of news articles surrounding how “concerned” doctors are and how this variant is spreading throughout the US, leading many to ask if this will lead to a second wave of lockdown.
