Connie Speer, a woman who is outspokenly against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), disrupted a Terre Haute South Vigo High School Club America meeting on Monday, causing a disturbance and instilling fear among the chapter’s community.

The president of the school’s Club America chapter provided Turning Point USA with details about the situation, revealing Speer’s motive for attending the meeting along with her actions during it.

On Facebook, Speer sarcastically declared that her intention for going to the meeting was to receive “some ICE education.” She also referred to ICE as the “SS” and “Gestapo” from Nazi Germany.

The chapter’s sponsor was initially confused by  Speer’s registration for the meeting ahead of her arrival. The sponsor believed she was someone else actively involved in TPUSA.

“On January 20, at 3:20pm we held an after school meeting for Club America in our sponsor’s classroom. Upon my arrival our sponsor asked if either the vice president or I had invited a speaker to the meeting; however, neither of us had. Our sponsor explained that he had received an email from someone who wanted to attend the meeting (I later found out that he was under the impression that it was someone from Indiana State University’s Turning Point Chapter, since we have met with them before).”

When the students discovered who Speer actually was, they were surprised and unnerved.

She was described as “a woman in her sixties wearing a COVID mask.”

“None of us knew who she was, or why she was there,” the chapter president continued. “I texted my mom and dad and made them aware of the situation.”

Notified of the stranger’s presence at the meeting, the chapter members’ parents investigated Speer’s social media accounts and found her comments on Facebook indicating her intention to attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, as the meeting proceeded, it was filled with interruptions from Speer, creating discomfort within the room.

“As the meeting began, our sponsor sat between the members and the woman to create distance. As members began speaking she would interrupt and make rebuttals many times. The sponsor began moderating and…interjecting so she would make contact with him instead of the members,” the chapter president said.

Parents discovered that Speer had taken a screenshot of the chapter’s Instagram posts “and reposted them on her personal Facebook page, and asked others to join her at [the chapter’s] meetings.” (See image below).

As the meeting ended, Speer revealed her alleged motive for attending it.

“At the end of the meeting, my brother (a fellow member) asked the woman how she found out about the meeting. She responded that she was attending as a concerned parent. I then asked her who her children were, and she responded with, ‘I’m not going to disclose that.’ As soon as she spoke, she left the room, and we locked the door.”

“We obviously did not want her there,” the chapter president said in conclusion, “but also wanted to be fair and treat her with respect, even though we didn’t know her intentions. After looking at her social media profiles, we are fearful that others she may have invited may try to come in the future. My parents have been in contact with the school…they are taking steps to prevent that.”
