What does it mean to be “radically pro-human?”
Allie Beth Stuckey, while speaking to attendees at Turning Point USA’s AmFest, unpacked this complex and controversial idea from a conservative viewpoint. She explained what she believes it means to be “radically pro-human,” and why our policies must refocus on core American and Christian values if conservatives want cultural and political change to be affected.
Beginning her speech, Stuckey outlined her four most unpopular opinions which she has, in recent months and years, fervently defended, including her belief that all children have a fundamental right to life from the moment of conception, regardless of the circumstances surrounding their conception that are outside of their control. Stuckey told attendees that men and women are not interchangeable, and therefore, she believes children have a right to and a need for both their mother and father. She concisely explained that pornography does not produce a single benefit to American society, but rather ruins lives, marriages, and childhood for many people. Finally, she said that Christians must stop “[outsourcing] discipleship” to the public school system.
“I thought that the nuanced, the educated position was to be ‘pro-life, except…'” Stuckey explained. But this view changed when a stranger on social media simply asked her why a child’s value and right to life depends on circumstances outside of their control. This one question changed her perspective entirely.
Stuckey said that conservatives are constantly being asked to compromise their views on marriage, children, and society, and asked to just give an inch to the more progressive position, and in turn, they win more supporters; but she refuted that idea, stating that conservatives “lose because we compromise too much, not because we don’t compromise enough.”
This uncompromising theme persisted throughout the entirety of Stuckey’s speech until she concluded by providing a deeply resounding message to Christian parents: it is a responsibility as a parent to “not outsource discipleship to an education system that hates us.”
“Christians should leave the public school system,” she said. “All education for better and for worse is indoctrination. All education places doctrine in its students — the question is, what doctrine?”
A reflective silence filled the room while she explained her point of view on this controversial topic, as many Christians feel that, in her words, parents “Want [their] children to learn to fight [spiritual] battles,” in the public school system.
“Your child isn’t even big enough to hold their shield,” Stuckey said. “We don’t put them on the frontlines before they can even carry their sword.”
She did stress to the audience that conservatives need to be working tirelessly to change the public education system in America for the better, but that children should not be the arbiters of this change.
In essence, to be radically pro-human means being staunchly conservative, confident in your convictions, and uncompromising in your beliefs as a Christian. It means supporting life and protecting children from fighting spiritual battles they simply aren’t equipped for at such a young age. It means ordering society in a way that is conducive to human flourishing and beauty, rather than disorder and chaos.
