As if traveling hasn’t been a pain enough as of late, throw in Omicron PLUS the holiday season, and you get exactly what you’re thinking…. a disaster.

The United State’s airline companies have seen a significant increase in cancelled flights due to COVID-related issues causing staffing shortages.

According to data from FlightAware, more than 1,100 flights were cancelled across The United States just before 3 p.m. on Monday.

SkyWest is one of the airlines that has been hit the hardest – SkyWest runs regional flights for Delta, United, and American Airlines. On Monday, they cancelled a total of 297 flights which is 12% of their total flights.

SkyWest told FOX Business Tuesday that coronavirus cases are what was sidelining their crews resulting in the cancellations.

Another airline getting hit hard with cancellations is Delta Airlines. On Christmas Day alone, Delta had to cancel 375 of their flights but is looking to see improvement in the coming days.

Delta issued an email Monday morning stating, “Of the 4,155 total mainline and connection flights scheduled Sunday, the airline had canceled 161, with around 40 more cancelations forecasted for the day, fewer cancelations than predicted less than a day ago. Delta expects that around 40 flights may be canceled Monday.”

If you’re traveling in the next few days, all I have to say is GOODLUCK! The airline industry has already been struggling with crews before this variant hit, so say a little prayer we can find a solution to this problem that doesn’t involve mandating a JAB!!
