An Air Force fan and graduate was kicked out of a women’s volleyball match for his t-shirt choice, according to video footage obtained by Outkick.
John Kopecky was reportedly wearing a “Keep Women’s Sports Female” shirt during Air Force’s home game against San Jose State University — a team that’s drawn national attention for having a biological male on the team.
According to the video, security asked Kopecky to unzip his sweatshirt so they could read what the shirt said. The vet was told he could not remove his sweatshirt during the match, or show the t-shirt, without being kicked out of the event.
“They’ve never made me unzip a hoodie to get in [to a game] before, so that was unusual,” Kopecky told Outkick. “I saw security pointing me out to the superintendent [and] the commandant … I could kind of see out of the corner of my eye they were pointing at where I was sitting.”
The extra security regulations come as San Jose State University’s Blaire Fleming — a biological male who identifies as a woman — has drawn attention nationwide for competing against women.
Volleyball games against San Jose State University saw a dramatic increase in security as the national debate over Fleming’s presence on the court drew ire. The university increased security a second time after a threat was made against a separate San Jose State University player, Brooke Slusser, who joined a lawsuit against the NCAA.
Slusser alleged in a lawsuit that San Jose State refused to divulge that her teammate — Fleming — was a biological male, according to a report from Breitbart.
Multiple women’s volleyball teams across the country have refused to play against San Jose State University given Fleming’s participation. The women believe there are safety and fairness concerns when a biological male enters women’s sports.
