After Flip-Flopping on Drag Performers, LA Dodgers announce ‘Christian Faith and Family Day’

Earlier this month, MLB team, the Los Angeles Dodgers invited LGBT group The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to attend their 10th annual Pride night at Dodger Stadium. The decision to invite a group known for their antics that specifically mock tenets of Christianity angered many Christian fans of the team and Christian groups across the country.
In response to this backlash, the Dodgers decided to disinvite the group from attending their pride night.
But they didn’t just stop there.
After the team uninvited The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, LGBT groups began to criticize the team’s decision to change course. They accused the Dodgers of “bending the knee” to conservative and Christian groups, including Senator Marco Rubio who sent a letter to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred condemning the act of allowing this group to attend the event.
The Dodgers had to make a decision: side with Christian fans or side with LGBT fans. The team chose the latter.
This week, the Dodgers announced they would be re-inviting The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to their Pride night. The group will receive the Community Hero Award from the team for the “life-saving work that they have done tirelessly for decades.”
The decision to re-invite this group, comprised of drag queens who dress as nuns and mock Christianity, gardened nationwide attention and disdain. The team’s tweet that announced this decision has amassed over 20 million views and numerous responses condemning the behavior. Social media users have pointed out that the team’s goal for Pride night was to be “inclusive” and “diverse,” yet they are inviting a group that specifically mocks and condemns a Christianity.
Now, to appease the dissenters, The Dodgers have announced a Christian Faith and Family Day that will take place on July 30th.
The decision to hold a Christian night was made amid a series of conservative boycotts happening across the country. Companies such as Bud Light, Target, and Disney have experienced boycotts from Americans who feel that they are promoting values that contradict their faith. The Dodgers presumably fear that they may be next in a growing line of organizations that are feeling the wrath of angry conservative consumers.
