The American Civil Liberties Union, known as the ACLU, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group that uses the following mission statement:

“The ACLU dares to create a more perfect union — beyond one person, party, or side. Our mission is to realize this promise of the United States Constitution for all and expand the reach of its guarantees.”

Actions speak louder than words when it comes to this highly partisan, pro-censorship, political action group, masquerading as an ‘all-inclusive’ charity. A recent Newsmax article on the subject summed the problem up perfectly by saying that the ACLU “balks at defending conservative speech while embracing the left-wing agenda. It talks more about white supremacy than it does civil liberties.”

The ACLU wasn’t always a liberal institution. So, what happened? According to former ACLU Executive Director Ira Glasser, who is the subject of a new documentary, “Mighty Ira,” the group is no longer living up to its values. In an appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, Glasser said that “Before they’re going to defend your free speech, they want to see what you say.”

Glasser would know, as he served the organization from 1978 to 2001. He was responsible for tremendous growth and clout for the organization and even took controversial free speech cases, like the right of Neo Nazis protestors to march in Skokie, Illinois.

The problems within the ACLU have even been highlighted by the extremely liberal New York Times, which explains that the ACLU became a political advocacy group with Anthony Romero taking over as Executive Director in 2001. They go on to say that Romero is a voracious fundraiser who is driven by liberal ideology and money.

If the issues are race, LBGT advancement, open borders, or any other leftist topic, they are perfect for the ACLU. If your issue involves religion, rights of the unborn, or the second amendment, you do not exist.

All speech should be protected, especially the speech that you find most offensive. The Constitution doesn’t call for censorship based upon your political views, opinions, or personal feelings. The ACLU is creating a dangerous situation for all Americans. Very few groups exist to protect free speech, democracy, and the Constitution. If the ACLU only protects certain viewpoints, then the others may have nowhere to turn and no legal recourse. In that case, only big tech, powerful corporations, academic intuitions, and the government are left to decide what viewpoints are allowed and who is allowed to express them.
