Has the world gone mad? If you haven’t figured it out by now, yes, it has; this will surely help you reach that conclusion.
An elementary student at St. Croix Preparatory Academy, a public charter school in Stillwater, Minnesota, faces expulsion for not wearing a mask because of his speech impediment. The 6-year-old student has an IEP (individual education plan) because of his disability, and the school determined that he is not exempt from wearing a mask and “that his conduct was not a manifestation of his disability,” per the expulsion notice.
The student’s mother, Abby Lee, claimed that the school gave away her son’s spot before the school board even voted to expel him. His hearing is being fast-tracked because “you cannot keep a kid with an IEP out of school for very long,” according to Abby.
This is not the only Lee child facing expulsion at St. Croix Preparatory Academy. Abby said the school also gave away her daughter’s seat without concluding her hearing and disciplinary process. Her other son’s continued refusal to wear a face mask resulted in him being suspended four times and then ultimately expelled as well. According to Alpha News, this is the first instance where a Minnesota student was expelled from a public primary or secondary school for not wearing a mask.
In a letter to Abby and Jake Lee, the administration stated that their son “constitutes gross disobedience,” and they have determined it to be “appropriate to pursue expulsion in this matter.”
The Lee family plans to homeschool their child who has already been expelled and any of their other children who will eventually be expelled due to violating the mask mandate.
Despite the school-aged children in Minnesota making up about half of one percent of the COVID-related mortalities in the state and kids not being deemed “vulnerable to Coronavirus,” St. Croix Preparatory Academy remains adamant of their illogical mandate.
