There are more than 5 million new first-time gun owners in the United States so far in 2020. That’s monumental and means there are millions of people navigating the process of owning a firearm.

If you’re in this group of 5 million–congrats! I am so happy that you’re here, and I know it can be challenging to understand all the 2A jargon, so here are three things you’re going to need as a first-time gun owner:

1 – A great holster

If you’re planning on carrying your new firearm every day or even every once in a while, you’ll need to invest in a great holster that’s comfortable and practical all at the same time.

Two popular brands are Vedder and Alien Gear, both of which I recommend you check out!

2 – Gun oil

You may not even know that your firearm needs oil every once in a while, but it sure does! You can get Lucas Gun Oil on Amazon, which is a super easy way to purchase a great product.

Watch YouTube videos or follow your favorite 2A influencers to learn more about firearm cleaning and maintenance (may I suggest Amy Robbins @theamyrobbins, Emily Valentine @stylemetactical, Kendall Jones @_kendalljones_, Bree Warner @tactigalnyc, and Lucas Botkin @lucastrexarms?)

3 – Practice!

Investment in your training is the most important thing to consider before and after purchasing your first firearm. Check out your local gun range for training and safety classes, and consistently make sure you’re practicing! Many ranges offer training for active shooter situations in simulation mode, which are fantastic opportunities to understand what concealing in public may look like in case of an emergency.

Welcome to the 2A family, first-time gun owner!
