Christmas weekend didn’t bring the happiest of holidays across The United States, especially to those in Chicago. The holiday weekend ended with 22 people shot in Chicago, two of those being fatal.
On Christmas night, Giovanni J. Lozano, a 24-year-old, was found unresponsive by police with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man identified as Clifford Jeffery, 37, was fatally shot at 3:20pm Sunday with wounds to the torso and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Chicago saw 23 people shot the weekend before Christmas, with 4 resulting in fatalities.
According to Chicago Police data, there has been a 5% increase in murders compared to Dec. 19, 2020.
Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, has called on the federal government to help assist with the increased crime and stated that she knows “people are scared.” Mayor Lightfoot said, “The federal government remains uniquely qualified to help address the scourge of gun violence. We need these additional resources well in advance of next summer.”
It sounds to me that the mayor knows her leftist policies are failing her community. Except, I’m not sure how the federal government monitoring gun owners will help, as the mayor suggests. We all know criminals obtain their guns illegally, part of the reason as to WHY they are criminals! My heart goes out to the citizens of Chicago!
