Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker receives Backlash for Sharing the Truth about Traditional Values
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker received significant backlash on social media following his commencement speech at Benedictine College’s graduation ceremony, particularly for his comments regarding traditional family values.
During his speech, Butker addressed the role of men in society, suggesting that the absence of men in the home contributes to violence and instability in American culture.
“As men, we set the tone of the culture, and when that is absent, disorder, dysfunction and chaos set in. This absence of men in the home is what plays a large role in the violence we see all around the nation,” Butker said.
“Be unapologetic in your masculinity fighting against the cultural emasculation of men. Do hard things. Never settle for what is easy,” he added.
But it was Butker’s comments about feminine roles that really angered feminists online.
“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment,” he began. “I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.”
“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
He also shared personal anecdotes about his wife, Isabelle, explaining that her fulfillment came from her role as a wife and mother rather than from pursuing a career.
“I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother, he continued.”
“Isabelle’s dream of having a career might not have come true, but if you ask her today if she has any regrets on her decision, she would laugh out loud without hesitation, and say, ‘Heck, no.'”
Despite Butker’s intention to emphasize the importance of family and serving one’s loved ones, his remarks were falsely labeled as saying a woman’s only purpose is to have children.
Butker’s speech did not include anything incorrect about gender roles in society or the importance of the family. Rather, the only people angered by his comments are feminists who have been lied to about how a career is more fulfilling than being a mother and raising children.
