Elon Musk’s Twitter Rejected Publishing Daily Wire’s ‘What is a Woman?’ Documentary

Elon Musk’s Twitter refused to support the posting of Daily Wire’s “What is a Woman?” documentary on the platform, according to Daily Wire’s co-CEO Jeremy Boreing.
Boreing took to Twitter this morning to post a thread outlining the details of Twitter rejecting the company’s desire to publish their famous documentary on their site. According to Boreing, Twitter offered Daily Wire a deal to purchase a package to host the movie using a dedicated event page. Twitter also stated that they would promote the event to every Twitter user for the first 10 hours.
However, after screening the documentary, Twitter revoked their offer. The tech company stated that the documentary violated their “hateful conduct” policy due to “misgendering.”
Twitter cited two primary examples of “misgendering” in the documentary that violated their policy. One of which includes a father calling his 14-year-old daughter “her” even though she identifies as a male.
When the Daily Wire asked what the consequences would be if they posted the documentary as planed, Twitter responded by saying they would limit the reach of the video. Twitter explained that even Daily Wire’s followers would be unable to see it on their feed, a policy referred to as “speech not reach.”
The decision to flag Daily Wire’s conduct as hate speech due to the misgendering came after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Musk, who bought the platform after the satire account The Babylon Bee was permanently suspended for misgendering, has emphasized the importance of free speech on the site. Daily Wire pointed out in response to Twitter’s decision that the “misgendering” rule was removed from their policy. Twitter responded by saying they still consider the act of misgendering to be abuse and harassment.
Matt Walsh, the creator of What is a Woman? posted an example of the “visibility limited” restriction that appeared when he uploaded a clip from his documentary that was determined to be “hateful conduct.”
At the end of his thread, Boreing stated that Daily Wire will post the entire documentary on Twitter tonight at 8:00pm. He called on Musk to reconsider the policy. Boreing argued, “if Twitter is going to throttle one side of one of the most important debates facing society, it cannot claim to champion free speech.”
Shortly after making these comments, Musk responded to Boreing by saying the decision to throttle the documentary was “a mistake by many people at Twitter.” Musk elaborated that while some people may disagree with the refusal to use preferred pronouns, the act “breaks no laws.”
