San Diego Migrant Facility Shuts Down After 96% Drop in Border Crossings
The Trump administration has dismantled a migrant processing facility in San Diego following an “unprecedented decrease” in illegal border crossings.
In a statement released Thursday, the White House revealed that the facility, which was originally built during the Biden administration, was no longer needed after the San Diego sector experienced a more than 96 percent drop in illegal crossings.
“Due to the unprecedented decrease in illegal crossings this year, the massive 1,000 person, San Diego Sector Soft Sided Facility has been dismantled,” the sector’s chief patrol agent wrote in a post on X.
The sector chief further revealed that in March of this year, the San Diego Sector arrested 1,199 illegal aliens, averaging 38 per day. This number represents a 186 percent drop compared to the same time last year under the previous administration.
The post was accompanied by a video showing the facility being shut down.
The White House also highlighted recent enforcement efforts over Memorial Day weekend, stating that immigration officials arrested “sick criminal illegal immigrants.” Among the arrests are suspected gang members and individuals accused of serious crimes such as sexual assault and rape.
The Trump administration has been continuing its efforts to carry out mass deportations of those in the country illegally, but has faced a series of roadblocks as federal judges have put a halt to certain policies. The most significant was the courts putting an injunction against the administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act, which would have expedited the deportation process for those associated with foreign gangs.
On Memorial Day, the president issued a post on Truth Social a scathing message to his political opponents and judges who have ruled against deportarion efforts, writing, “HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY.” The post added that “warped radical left minds” have allowed millions of illegal immigrants into the country, with “many of them being criminals and the mentally insane.”
